Rebirth of GORGOROTH

Med "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" rör sig GORGOROTH igen... En intervju med Infernus och Tormentor hittas här.

"Wrath(intervjuaren. min not): Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt has a no nonsense directness to it, yet the song writing is more diverse, and you've captured a crushingly ominous atmosphere. In the track 'Rebirth' one of the lines is “Rebirth of Gorgoroth!”, I can speculate several different trains of thought, but what was the reason for it?

Tormentor: I think the new album turned out well. We're satisfied with it. Personally I appreciate the things you point out in your question: It got an atmosphere and an attitude closer to the early Gorgoroth releases, and the diversity of the tracks is better with more heaviness to ti. In other words, it's very much classical Gorgoroth with some new factors added. The lyrics are as always (and forever) satanic. “Rebirth” just underlines that aspect. My suggestion of interpretation is the always ongoing rebirths of the band, not line up wise but more evolutionary."

MERRIMACK

I och med att nyheterna, som sig bör, om världens bästa DEATHSPELL OMEGA är obefintliga söker jag med ljus och lykta efter annan intressant musik från Frankrike. Ett sådant band är MERRIMACK.

Trots bandets långa historia är nog bandet ganska okänt för de flesta musikintresserade. Den första demon släpptes 1995 och sedan dess har ett antal demos samt tre fullängdare spelats in och släppts. Musiken kan inte liknas vid DEATHSPELL OMEGAs utan istället är det rätt-på, brutal, rå, traditionell, tillbaka-till-rötterna black metal som gäller. Följande citat ger en fingervisning om hur bandet vill bli uppfattat:

"In the early eighties we were quite influenced by the Norwegian scene, which was extremely strong at that time, we are now into more modern Black Metal, something more twisted, chaotic, dirty and dissonant. We can’t stand the cheesy melodies of many Scandinavian bands now. Then, our dedication to this black art for the past 15 years has defined our personality in every detail. We know exactly where we are going."

"The evolution of Black Metal is not something that I really appreciate. The scene is totally saturated by shit bands and crappy labels, and the bands which I used to like in the nineties turned into wimp commercial shit. Denna månad publiceras min recension av GORGOROTHs "Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt" på werock. Skivan är helt klart en aspirant för titeln "årets album". Hur bra skivan verkligen är kan ni läsa här.
Recensioner av bland annat band som HYPOCRISY, NILE, SLAYER och IMPIOUS finns även publicerade så surfa in på werock, läs och begrunda vilka skivor som kanske borde ligga som ett hårt paket under granen om drygt två veckor.

When the time is right, we will start working on exploring new musical territory and only the future can tell what that will turn into. Taking on challenges like that is something SATYRICON never has been afraid of. On the contrary, it is what has made the band grow.

Inte så mycket mer information än jag rapporterade om här alltså. Det enda nya är väl att de här tydligt deklarerar att den nya inriktningen inte kommer att innebära en tillbakagång till något gammalt. Samtidigt som det är tråkiga nyheter så är det samtidigt skönt. Det hade kunnat bli riktigt bra eller så hade det bara blivit patetiskt och pinsamt.

Min recension av MAYHEMs spelning på Musikens hus i Göteborg ligger nu uppe på Werock. I korthet var det riktigt bra, den längre versionen hittar ni alltså här.

Mer information finns nu om OV HELLs kommande "The Underworld Regime". Förutom King(ex GORGOROTH) och DIMMU BORGIRs vokalist Shagrath medverkar SATYRICONs och 1349s Frost på trummor samt ENSLAVEDs Ice Dale och GOD SEEDs Teloch på gitarr.

Kompetenta musiker men frågan är om det finns någon själ i OV HELL. Det känns som om det gått väldigt snabbt... Resultatet och därmed facit kommer i februari då "The Underworld Regime" släpps.

King:

"It is always hard to describe your own music and it usually ends up like meaningless self-promotion of your own album. It will, however, contain music most people would define as black metal. ... The album will contain a mixture of our different musical preferences and the personalities involved, which hopefully will lead to something original and new. ...

The will to relive 1994 in black metal these days should be against all that black metal is all about. Presenting others' art and ideas almost 15 years later, mostly based on nostalgic reflections, show that you don't have the capacity to adapt to your own chaos and so on develop to a strong individual unique being. Recycling your own ideas will show that you are not capable of change and in other words should be viewed as dead."

MAYHEM på Musikens hus

GORGOROTH på europaturné samt lite mer MAYHEM

Äntligen lite intressanta nyheter om GORGOROTH. Bandet släppte ju skivan "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" nyligen och en turné har därmed varit väntad. Tyvärr är bara datum i Tyskland, Holland, Belgien, Frankrike och Italien offentliggjorda än så länge men det är ju i alla fall en början. Med GORGOROTH på turnén åker KEEP OF KALESSIN. Efter gårdagens spelning med MAYHEM kan man ju hoppas på att få läsa nyheten att GORGOROTH stannar till i Sverige.

Recensioner av "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" samt MAYHEMs spelning i Göteborg publiceras under helgen. Även om jag hoppades hade jag aldrig kunnat tro att skivan eller konserten var så bra som de är/var! Missa därför inte MAYHEM i Stockholm imorgon eller i Östersund på lördag.
